finale di Champions League: Steffen Freund – Come ho resistito alla Stasi
Berlino, sede di finale di Champions League di Sabato tra Barcellona e Juventus, era una città molto diversa 27 anni fa. Poi, con il muro di Berlino ancora in piedi, la polizia segreta della Germania Est, la Stasi, sarebbero spesso concentrarsi sugli atleti come potenziali informatori.
E ‘1988, nella Repubblica democratica tedesca, noto ai più come Germania Est, ancora più di un anno prima della caduta del muro di Berlino.
Un futuro vincitore tedesco Champions League internazionali e saranno gettati in una stanza buia in Brandeburgo (una regione che circonda la capitale tedesca) prima di due uomini a lui sedersi su una sedia, le loro torce e brillare direttamente negli occhi.
“Tu lavorerai per la Stasi e condividi le tue compagni,” la gente dice. “Se non lo fai, la tua famiglia sarà nei guai.”
Steffen Freund, poi giocare per Stahl Brandenburg, ripercorre gli agenti della polizia segreta della Germania Est temuto e dice di no. Ha 17 anni.
Collegato famigerata agenzia di sicurezza del KGB russo, la Stasi è stato considerato come una delle agenzie di intelligence più efficaci della guerra fredda. Hanno effettuato la sorveglianza sui loro stesso popolo e coinvolti Zersetsung un processo chiamato – o “dissoluzione” – destinato a molestare mentalmente potenziali informatori o quelli che può causare problemi per loro.
Ma Freund, ora 45, non cadere a pezzi. “Il potere della Stasi era enorme”, ricorda. “Non si può immaginare la pressione.
“Hanno cercato di costruire reti nel calcio e avevano tutte le informazioni. Se è andato in Austria per giocare una amichevole, avrebbero capire quale giocatore era forse pensano di non tornare a casa e che avrebbero impedito di viaggiare. ”
Come giovane e talentuoso calciatore, Freund era una delle poche persone nel paese che potrebbe viaggiare al di fuori del muro, per non parlare di un altro paese.
Questo lo rese un bersaglio ovvio per un servizio di sicurezza dello Stato il cui scopo principale era quello di controllare la società.
“A quell’età, era difficile dire di no”, l’ex Borussia Dortmund, Tottenham Hotspur e Germania il centrocampista dice. “Vuoi dire sì o no?”
E ‘un dilemma del calciatore moderno può solo immaginare felice e facendo la decisione è stata difficile, perché la Stasi non partire da zero. Hanno costruito su una base di anni di propaganda in divenire.
“Ci è stato insegnato a scuola, per non lasciare la Germania orientale”, ha detto Freund. “” Non andare in Germania Ovest ‘avrebbe detto, “la gente non ci sono posti di lavoro.”
“Abbiamo capito che l’Unione Sovietica era il nostro grande fratello e ci hanno detto,” non c’è bisogno di andare da nessuna parte. ”
Con quella ideologia martellato giù ad ogni turno, Freund ammette di essere sospettoso dei suoi compagni di squadra, sapendo che sarebbero stati contattati.
Un club, Dinamo Dresda, si è detto per 18 giocatori a collaborare con la polizia segreta.
“E ‘stato spaventoso, ma che era come funzionava”, ha detto Freund. “I tedeschi dell’Est vivevano nella paura. Sarebbero in contatto con i tuoi amici, sapevano tutto di te. Questo è il motivo per cui molte persone sono andate in galera per niente, forse solo perché sono in contatto con i tedeschi .
“Mi sento ancora per quella gente”, dice. “Siamo rimasti delusi non è la parola giusta, è più profondo.”
Anche ora, non sappiamo tutto quello che c’è da sapere sul Stasi. Sappiamo che atleti come Germania Est calciatore Falko Gotz sentito che era sotto tale sicurezza pesante, che è fuggito con successo in Occidente nel 1983. Gli fu dato il divieto di un anno dalla Fifa, ma ha continuato la sua carriera a Bayer Leverkusen.
Ma tagliuzzato Stasi file ancora nella capitale tedesca, dove il dibattito su se devono essere ripristinati è stato rilanciato lo scorso anno come la nazione ha segnato 25 anni dalla caduta del muro di Berlino in diretta.
Freund era felice. La sua coraggiosa decisione di dire di no, non hanno un costo.
“Alla fine non hanno potuto mettere sufficiente pressione su di me perché la mia famiglia era pulito”, ricorda. “Ho detto ai ragazzi, ‘Io amo la Germania orientale, ma non riesco a guardare i miei compagni di squadra e ti dirà chi vorrebbe fuggire. Non lo farei mai, perché ho lo spirito di squadra. ” ‘
Solo sette uomini giocavano sia per la Germania Est e la squadra nazionale tedesca unificata. Freund è uno di loro.
Egli ha anche una Champions League vincitori medaglia nel 1997 come parte della squadra Borussia Dortmund – accanto internazionali tedesche come Matthias Sammer, Jurgen Kohler, Andreas Moller e Karl-Heinz Riedle, oltre a Scot Paul Lambert – il primo è stato ( e ultimo) la parte tedesca della coppa per vincere sul terreno di casa.
Con questa storia in mente, è già uno dei figli prediletti della regione. Ma lui ci tiene a sottolineare che non ha sentimenti negativi verso la sua vecchia casa.
“Abbiamo avuto un sacco di mangiare”, dice. “Non c’era nessun lusso, ma non siamo mai affamati e abbiamo apprezzato che vi abitano.”
Questo lo rende anche la fortuna, ma non sarà mai il giorno in cui avrebbe potuto fermare sul nascere dimenticare una carriera per la sua strada verso l’alto.
“Sono ancora stupito che ho detto di no”, Freund dice e scuote la testa. “Ricordo le ultime parole. ” Se dite la vostra famiglia, sei nei guai e forse i vostri genitori va in prigione “..
“Poi hanno spento le torce ed io siamo andati a casa.”
