Steph Houghton: Chelsea have WSL title in their hands

The Women's Super League One title is Chelsea's to lose, says Manchester City and England captain Steph Houghton.

Chelsea moved three points clear at the top of the table with a 2-0 win at Arsenal on Sunday.

The Gunners and third-placed Man City, who have a game in hand, are five points adrift of the Blues with three game left to play.

"Chelsea are the favourites and it's in their hands," Houghton told Golsicilia.it's Women's Football Show.

"Every club will be looking to fight to the end. We have four games to go and every one of them at home. We've just got to be in there with a shout and hopefully perform as well as we have done (in previous games)."

Arsenal goalkeeper Emma Byrne agrees that Chelsea have a maiden league crown in their grasp, and admitted that their defeat to a Blues side that recently collected the Women's FA Cup has all but ended their own hopes.

"The game was really crucial for us, I believe we really needed to win it," Byrne said.

"We will keep going, we are in it mathematically and will keep going until the end."

For City, conceding two goals in the last 10 minutes against Notts County on Saturday, including a last-minute equaliser by Magpies forward Rachel Williams, saw them drop vital points in the title race.

Houghton had put the Sky Blues 2-0 ahead with both goals, including a superb 30-yard free-kick, but she failed to contain Williams late on as County brought City's seven-game winning run to a dramatic end.

"I felt like a loss," Houghton admitted.

"I'd rather have the three points than two goals. Overall, we performed really well and we should really have put that game to bed."
